For well over a century the valued resources of Newman Minerals have played a critical role in the growth and sustainability of California. From railroad ballast first mined in the 1870’s by the “Big Four” of Central Pacific fame to the uniquely high quality of aggregates used in roofing shingles sold throughout the United States, the many products offered by Newman Minerals make our facilities unique in our industry.
A key to our success is the Ione Formation, with “virtually every rock type in it has current or potential value” according to the United States Geological Survey. From extremely hard basalts used for railroad ballast and rip rap, to sand and gravel deposits meeting department of transportation specifications, our products can satisfy the requirements of any project, big or small. In addition, we can provide specialty products including lateritic clays, and other mineral and industrial specialty sands and clays. According to the California Division of Mines, the Ione Formation is one of California’s most important industrial-mineral assets.
Our location provides a strategic advantage in bringing our products to market. Situated conveniently between Sacramento and Stockton, both large and small quantities can be shipped by truck any time day or night. For larger quantities or when rail provides a superior delivery option, our rail loading ability provides great economic advantage for our customers.
